Medical Practice Langenthal

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project has been commissioned by a lung-specialist, who was about to open his own practice for pneumology. The client's desire has been a modern practice – equipped with a comprehensive computer network including all devices (laboratory, lung-function, patient history, etc). The form and functionality of the architecture should reflect this comprehensive approach to medicine.

The main idea of the project is to create a continuous open space, subdivided by curved L-shaped angles which can be read as a continuation of the existing round staircase. These curvilinear angles generate enclosed areas like for example the examination rooms and open areas like the reception areas, which allow to experience a continuous space subdivided into a waiting zone, a laboratory and a staff–room.

Material: Ceiling and walls are painted white; the floor is executed as casted, seamless black rubber granulates. The bright orange curtains separate the changing areas from the examination rooms.

Construction: The walls and the reception are built in wood (MDF, form plywood). In order to achieve the acoustic requirements for the examination rooms, the wooden walls have double columns and the MDF-boards are coated with a heavy laminate on the inside of the wall.
